National Craft Championship Competition
On December 8, 2017, Mike Jensen of Camblin Mechanical, Inc. competed in the Iowa Craft Championships competition. The competition allows apprentices to showcase their knowledge and skills learned. It consists of an intense two-hour written exam and competing in daylong hands-on practical performance tests.
Winning first place in the HVAC competition at the state level, Jensen qualified for the National Craft Championships, which took place in Long Beach, CA, on March 21, 2018. Jensen was among 200 competitors in 15 competitions in 12 crafts. Mike competed against nine others in written and practical labs at Nationals and brought back a gold medal in HVAC!
“The entire experience was very exciting for us,” stated Randy Watts, Vice President of Camblin Mechanical Inc. “This competition was a lot different than the national plumbing competition in 2016. Mike showed off his technician skills in the lab competition as he competed against the “best of the best.” We are proud of his award and look forward to many more!”
As a national winner, Mike was also invited to a Washington Nationals baseball game on July 3, 2018, in Washington, DC, and was able to stay for the July 4th national fireworks display.
Mike was invited this year to participate in Nationals again as part of the commercial team competition. Jensen headed back to Long Beach on March 27 to compete.
Camblin Mechanical, Inc. would like to congratulate Mike for all his hard work and dedication to his trade.
The National Craft Championship Competition was developed in 1987 to help celebrate and recognize craft training in construction careers. Each year the competition draws some of the nation’s most talented craft professionals and highlights the critical role that craft skills training plays in the construction industry.
